The first thing you’ll need to do is gather the necessary documents that you’ll need throughout this process. You’ll need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), the model year and vehicle make, the registered owner’s date of birth, and the ZIP code of the mailing address.

The easiest way that you can apply for a replacement title is through their online portal. They give you clear cut instructions and examples throughout the online form, which makes it super convenient for you!

If your vehicle doesn’t qualify for the online replacement application, you can still apply through the mail or a DMV office. If you go this route, you’ll need to fill out an Application for Duplicate Title. You’ll also need proof of identity, which most likely will just be your New York driver’s license. You’ll also need to pay a $20.00 replacement fee.
