How to Get Your Title in Mississippi
Trying to sell your car can be a difficult and lengthy process. It can get even more complicated if you realize that the vehicle’s title is missing, destroyed, or mutilated in some way. Thankfully, the Mississippi Department of Revenue has an easy process outlined to help you apply for a duplicate title. We’ve got the abridged version of the process for you right here.
The first thing you’ll need to do is fill out the Application for Replacement Certificate of Title.
You should only apply for a duplicate Mississippi title if you’re positive the original title was from the same state. If your vehicle was originally titled in another state, you’ll have to request a new one from that state.
You’ll need to pay the $9.00 replacement title fee, or you can pay $39.00 for a Fast Track title, which will get to you sooner.
If you own the vehicle jointly with someone else, and your names appeared on the original title joined by the word “and”, you’ll both need to sign the application for a new title.
Once the duplicate title is issued, the original title becomes void. If you find your original title later, you’ll have to surrender it to the Department of Revenue.
When the application is complete, you can mail it off to:
Mississippi Department of Revenue
Title Bureau
P.O. Box 1383
Jackson, MS 39215
If you want to keep a copy of the application for your own records, the Department of Revenue asks that you make a photocopy to keep for yourself, as they will not return the original document to you.
