You must make a reservation to enjoy a tour of the mansion, but in this tour, you will explore the ballroom, library, and dining room. It is still the current home of the Governor of West Virginia.

The Avampato Discovery Museum is two stories of family fun. Located in the Clay Center for Arts and Sciences,

where you can enjoy interactive science exhibits for the whole family. Here you can have your children learn about earth sciences, engineering, energy, magnetism, and health.

The Towers Museum & Culture Center provides information regarding the story of African American life. It begins with history from the kingdoms of West Africa to the Appalachian coal mines. These exhibits explore little-known chapters in West Virginia's rich history. 

Along with help from other museums and schools, the center celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans in West Virginia, and around the country. It works to promote cultural diversity and help to educate.

The original museum grew from an early traveling exhibition on the wreck of “Henrietta Marie”. This was a ship that carried enslaved persons.

It was found buried under the ocean for 300 years off the coast of Florida. The ship represents the infamous Triangle Trade, as well as the trans-Atlantic slave route. Overall, it serves as a vehicle for exploring the history of African Americans in West Virginia.
