First named as Brownsville, it was later named Ogden for a brigade leader of the Hudson's Bay Company, Peter Skene Ogden. Although there was a man, Samuel Ogden, who traveled through the western United States on an exploration trip in 1818, this was not who it was named for.

In 1972, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints completed the construction of a dedicated Ogden Utah Temple. Now it is home to many members of the LDS Church and known as Utah's second-largest city.

Overall, Ogden experiences either a humid subtropical climate or a humid continental climate. Summers are known to be both hot and relatively dry, with highs often reaching 95 degrees.

Rain is not very frequent in the summer, but the snow does occur in late October or early November. The winter has a high of around 37 degrees, with an average snowfall of 56 inches.

The Hill Aerospace Museum is a U.S. Air Force museum displaying aircraft, equipment, vehicles, and also historical memorabilia. Founded in 1981, the museum moved from 1991 and eventually lead to housing over 90 aircraft.

These show the history of the air force, with five exhibits: Beginnings, World War II, Dawn of the Jet Age, the Cold War, and Keeping the Peace.

The 25th Street Historic District is a historic neighborhood consisting of three blocks. The history here begins at the Union Station in 1869.

It became an important railroad junction and eventually was known for many businesses and gambling activities. Today, the historic 25th Street is filled with beautiful art galleries, restaurants, and shops.

The Utah State Railroad Museum is dedicated to showing visitors everything about the original construction of the transcontinental railroad. Even the entrance to the museum is made up of timbers originally used to build the Lucin Cutoff across the Great Salt Lake.

With interactive exhibits and real artifacts, you will be sure to truly enjoy this museum. There is even an area called “Operation Lifesaver” which teaches children railroad crossing safety. Fun and education for the whole family.

Take in five acres of 100 full-sized dinosaur replicas. The dinosaur replicas are sculptures based on fossil skeletons. They are robots and even make noises to what we think dinosaurs made.

Find dinosaurs such as Ceratosaurus, a Parasaurolophus, a Triceratops, and a 45-foot long Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Peery’s Egyptian Theater is a movie palace that was built between 1923 and 1924. Originally built as an Egyptian-themed movie palace, the theatre was constructed to copy the theatre in Hollywood.

Now, the 800 seat theater presents classical plays, musicals, and annual Christmas performances of the Nutcracker Ballet.

The Ice Sheet is a well-known ice skating facility located on Harrison Boulevard. The Ice Sheet opened in 1994 as a training center for curling, figure skating, and ice hockey.

It even hosted events during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Now you can take classes, enjoy curling, figure skating, hockey, and speed skating as well.

There are various options to explore flowers in Ogden. First, the 11-acre Ogden Botanical Gardens are located on Monroe Boulevard. This is along the Ogden River and offers a public garden divided into a few different areas. Head to the Entryway Garden which features five large pergolas and a water feature.

There is also an entire acre of flowers and shrubs, that are extremely colorful. Also be sure to check out the Four-Seasons Garden, the Collections Garden, the Oriental Garden, and the Rose Garden. This is a nice relaxing day for the entire family.

Overall Ogden, Utah is a popular ski destination. There is access to three wonderful ski resorts only 20 minutes from downtown. And it is also home to museums and historic attractions. Walk on Historic 25th Street, visit the Hill Aerospace Museum, or stop by the Utah State Railroad Museum.
