A Little About Miami, Florida!
Geography
Woodburn, Oregon is a small but beautifully green and welcoming city in Oregon's Marion County. Woodburn was officially incorporated in 1889 following platting in 1871.
Positioned in the northern section of the Willamette Valley, Woodburn is located between the heavily populated cities of Salem and Portland.
Woodburn residents use Interstate 5 to connect to nearby cities in the northern and southern sections of the state. The city is also served with routes 99E, 219, 214, and 211.
The Willamette Valley Railway and Union Pacific rail lines pass through Woodburn, transporting cargo and passengers. However, Woodburn is best seen by automobiles. All in all, Woodburn has a population of 24,000, making it the metropolitan area's third-most populous city behind Keizer and Salem.
History
The area that we now call Woodburn was first called home by the Kalapuya Native Americans. The town was initially referred to as Halsey. However, this name was eventually changed to Woodburn as Oregon already had another city named Halsey. The name of Woodburn stems from a slash burn that locals could not control.
The slash burn eventually burned down a woodlot so locals decided that Woodburn would be a good name for the area. Woodburn was officially incorporated in February of 1889. Take a spin through Woodburn in the summer, fall, winter or spring and you will find the area's temperatures are quite mild.
You can roll through town with your windows down every month of the year without having to worry about catching a chill. The city's temperatures top out in the low 80s in the summer months and the low 50s in the winter months. Though Woodburn receives a bit of snow in December, January and February, accumulation totals are minimal.
Continue driving through Woodburn and you will find your way to the Willamette Ballet Academy, which has been in existence for nearly 40 years. This is the site where scenes from the '07 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie The Valley of Light were filmed. Additional local highlights include a popular museum on Settlemier Avenue called the Jesse H.
Settlemier House. This historic house was built by the city's founder, Jesse H. Settlemier. Though no one lives in the house today, it is still open to the general public as a site for special events and tourism.
The city's "World's Best Berry Center Museum" has been open to the public dating back to the early 80s. Here, you will find plays produced by Miracle Theatre.
Culture
If you enjoy Latino cuisine and music, be sure to check out La Fiesta Mexicana. This event lasts nearly an entire week. Those who are into sports will likely enjoy Woodburn's quarter-mile Dragstrip. This National Hot Rod Association site hosts a yearly event in the NHRA Lucas Oil Series.
The dragstrip is located slightly to the west of the city along Oregon's Highway 219. If you enjoy golfing, you owe it to yourself to check out Woodburn's Oregon Golf Association public golf course. This course is consistently ranked as one of the country's most affordable public courses.
The city is also home to the Woodburn Golf Club, a 9-hole course open to the public. This course dates all the way back to 1925.
Located about seven miles away from the city center of Woodburn, Champoeg State Park is consistently rated as one of the top sites in and near the city.
Here, you will find vast open green spaces, tall trees and all sorts of picture-worthy wildlife. Make your way over to the Pacific Northwest Truck Museum, about nine miles from the Woodburn city center, and you will learn all sorts of interesting facts about trucks. Shopaholics will gravitate to the Woodburn Premium Outlets.
Located at 1001 Arney Rd. This shopping center is highly-rated, providing all sorts of affordable items coveted by Woodburn residents and visitors alike.
Woodburn is also home to the eye-popping Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. Here, you will be treated to an impressive visual display of red, violet and yellow tulips that look absolutely gorgeous.
This site is consistently ranked as one of the top attractions for locals and tourists alike as its tulip fields stretch as far as the eye can see. Woodburn also features Hanson Vineyards. If you love wine or are interested in how wine is made, you should make a beeline to this local highlight.
Hanson Vineyards is revered for its obscure red grapes that have quite the unique taste when used to make red wine. Just be sure to bring along a designated driver so you can make it back to your home or hotel without any drama on the road.
