History of Wichita
The Wichita area has a rich history that predates European settlers. The Wichita Native American tribe lived in the area for hundreds of years, but eventually migrated due to local conflicts.
The Kiowa tribe also lived in the area as well. Archaeological digs have revealed that nomadic hunters have lived in the area for thousands of years.
Wichita officially became part of the United States after the Louisiana Purchase.
The first trading post was established in the area in the mid-19th century.

Eisenhower National Airport in the 1950s. There have been multiple major aircraft manufacturers operating in Wichita over the last century.
Aircraft manufacturing in Wichita was crucial to the US military effort during World War II. The municipal airport later became McConnell Air Force Base.
In addition to this booming aircraft business, Wichita was an important center for entrepreneurship in the 1950s.
In particular, fast food chains like White Castle and Pizza Hut opened their doors in this area during this time.
Culture of Wichita
The aviation industry continues to thrive in Wichita and affects the culture of the city. Companies like Cessna, Beechcraft, and Airbus all have a presence in Wichita.

Both rock and country music have historically been very popular in Wichita.
