The history from there is both tragic and inspirational. Tragic in that the entire city burnt down in 1843, but inspirational in that it was rebuilt, better and stronger, as a village in 1901.

The railroads brought development to the city with new schools, stores, and a population boom in 1915. Fort Pierce has suffered and rebuilt time and again.

From a decline in 1988 to restored historic buildings and a revitalized Downtown area in 1994, the city has retained its charm and intrigue.

Fort Pierce is ranked as the 96th safest city in Florida, with a population of locals that rarely exceeds 48,000.

It’s a smaller city, one where many local families can trace their heritage back to generations of Fort Pierce natives.

Since Fort Pierce is close to the water, there’s always a tinge of cooling sea breeze in the air towards the coastlines.

On average, from April to August, the weather is warm and pleasant, with daytime highs of 82- to 91- degrees Fahrenheit and evening lows of 62- to 73- degrees Fahrenheit.

As for winter, it’s rare that Fort Pierce drops below 70 degrees Fahrenheit for daytime temperatures and 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the evenings.

Because of its close proximity to the shorelines of the Atlantic Ocean, Fort Pierce is at high risk for annual hurricanes.

Since 1930, it’s been in the path of 80 hurricanes.

The one that devastated the city most was Hurricane Diana in 1984 with high winds of 115 miles per hour.

There are also changing exhibits to showcase local artists and adventurers. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park is home to 340 acres of preserved land that bumps against miles of coastline.

There are white sands, dunes, cliffs, and a hammock of coastal waters between Tucker Cove and the Atlantic Ocean.

Surf the waves, swim in the seas, walk the shorelines, and have picnics with your loved ones in the sunshine. Relax a while.

Heathcote Botanical Gardens is nature in full bloom with acres of unique flower gardens, fruit trees, and herb gardens.

Visitors can also expect rainforest displays for educational purposes, as well as reflection pools with side benches to relax and rejuvenate in silence.

Near Christmas, the botanical gardens are laces with hundreds of thousands of sparkles, then called The Garden of Lights.

If you love zoos and nature preserves, check out the Manatee Observation and Education Center for your chance to see native Floridian animals.

Sea cows are well-protected (and adorable), and this center is devoted to educating people on how to preserve and appreciate coastal wildlife.

Fort Pierce, FL has had its fair share of ups and downs, but it’s never stayed down for long.
