A Little About Fayetteville, Arkansas!
Fayetteville is the third-largest city in Arkansas. Found on the outskirts of the Boston Mountains, Fayetteville is located deep within the Ozarks. The city was actually known as Washington until 1829, until the city was named after Fayetteville, Tennessee.
This was because many of the settlers had come from there and wanted it to be familiar. Fayetteville was officially incorporated in 1836. With a population of over 75,000, Fayetteville is also home to the University of Arkansas. During this time, thousands of students flood to the campus and dramatically change the city's demographics.
The city of Fayetteville is even known as the "Track Capital of the World" due to the success of the University of Arkansas cross country and track & field programs. With a humid subtropical climate, Fayetteville experiences all four seasons.
Although it does receive cold air masses sometimes, most of the Arctic masses are blocked by the higher elevations of the Ozarks. August can be very hot, reaching an average of 89 degrees, with January having a low of 26. Rain is extremely common, with wet seasons in both the spring and fall, but dry summers and winters.
