The Hyundai Recall: What You Need to Know

In this day and age, many of us have dealt with recalls on our vehicles already. To some, it may seem like automakers release recalls every other day. But, if you or someone you know drives a Hyundai, you’ll want to read this. We’re giving you all the information you need to know about the latest Hyundai recall.

The South Korean automaker is recalling over 600,000 vehicles, for two different issues.

The larger of the two recalls affects over 400,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles, model years 2013-2017. They’ve found that the secondary hood latch is corroding and binding. This means that if the hood wasn’t properly closed, it could go flying open while on the road. It is believed that this might have been caused by salt on the roads during the winter months. Thankfully, no accidents have been linked to this issue.

The second recall affects over 160,000 model years 2015 and 2016 Genesis and Sonatas. These vehicles are having issues with a parking brake light, also caused by corrosion. Drivers may experience issues with acceleration, a strange noise from the parking brake, and smoke or smell from the parking brake.

Luckily, neither of these recalls have resulted in any injuries.

Do you own one of these affected Hyundai’s? Keep an eye on your mailbox for a letter from the automaker. They’ll be sending you a notice of the recall within the next few days, and dealerships will start the repairs on June 30, 2017. The letter should tell you where to go to get the secondary latch replaced. The good news: this service will be done free of charge, so the only real cost to the customer is having to wait while your car is repaired.
