This week, hundreds of car enthusiasts will head out to the Monterey Peninsula on California’s Central Coast to admire collector cars and even compete for different prizes. If you’ll be in the area through Sunday, August 20, 2017, be sure to check it out. But, don’t head out before reading our guide on Monterey Car Week below!

There are Events in Multiple Cities

Be prepared to head all over the Monterey Bay area if you’re planning on attending all the car events this week. Events are taking place in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove, Monterey, Carmel Valley, Seaside, Pebble Beach, and more. You can check out the official guide to all the events here to plan your trip, but if you’re planning on attending multiple events, having a car will be a must.

Dress the Part

It may be tempting to pack your best beach wear for your car week adventure, but it may not be the wisest choice. Events taking place at the Pebble Beach resort tend to have a more sophisticated dress code. Plus, being right on the water, you’ll want to dress in layers. When the fog starts to roll in at 4 o’clock, you’ll be grateful to have a sweater on hand.

Hit Up the Auctions

Interested in purchasing a collector car for yourself? There will be plenty of auctions happening around the Peninsula this week, so you’re in luck! Sotheby’s, Russo and Steele, Mecum Auto Auctions, and Gooding & Company are just a few of the places where you could start your bidding on your next dream car.

Pack Your Patience

With so many car lovers headed to a very small area, be prepared for long lines and traffic jams. The good news? From many parts of Highway 1 you’ll have a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean to gaze at even if traffic comes to a standstill. Also, be sure to double check any routes you’re planning on taking to events in the area. There will be some street closures for the various car shows, so be prepared for detours.

Activities Not Involving Cars

If your loved one is dragging you to Central California for Car Week even if you’re not interested in anything auto related, have no fear! There’s still plenty to do in the area that has nothing to do with cars. The Monterey Bay Aquarium on Cannery Row is a great stop for adults and kids alike. For the history buffs, you can take a tour of Colton Hall, where California’s Constitution was written, or visit an old cathedral. There’s shopping in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and plenty of activities on Cannery Row or Fisherman’s Wharf, beautiful beaches, golf courses, and hiking trails in the area. No matter what kind of activities you’re looking for, you’re sure to find them in Monterey County! Whether it’s your first trip to the Concours or you’re a seasoned veteran, it’s always an exciting time to visit a beautiful area and see some gorgeous cars.
